Reducing Reoffending Programme Workshop held in Fife & Forth Valley

The Scottish Government's Reducing Reoffending Programme (RRP) held a workshop in Fife & Forth Valley on 22nd November. The workshop brought together a wide range of partner agencies as part of the consultation for the development of Phase 2 of the programme, which has seen similar events across the country.

Acting Deputy Director of Community Justice Division, Mr Joe Griffin, delivered a presentation outlining the successes and learning points from Phase 1 and this was followed by a discussion regarding how partners would like to see the RRP develop in its second phase.

Key messages from the presentation covered the need to have an RRP:

• Reoffending accounts for two-thirds of crime
• Economic & social costs of crime = £5bn p.a.
• Marginal impact on reoffending frequency could save £30m over 10 years

Key achievements of RRP Phase 1:
• Implementation of the Community Payback Order
• Young People Who Offend ‘Whole System Approach'
• Implementation of LS/CMI
• Criminal Justice Social Work Reports
• Interventions: prison/community
• Cross sector partnership
